New company, Happy Returns, partners with St. Matthews Paper Source

LOUSIVILLE, Ky. (WDRB) -- In the days following Black Friday and Cyber Monday, Victoria Smith is like a lot of people.

“Especially this time of year, I've bought a lot of stuff recently,” Smith said. “I actually got most of my shopping done.”

She's out shopping for the perfect wrapping paper for the perfect gift. But what happens if what she bought online isn't so perfect?

“I’m one of those people who just sucks it up if it wasn't too expensive and just keep it anyway because I don't want to deal with it,” Smith said.

Making a return can be a hassle.

“I'm just very busy rights now,” Smith said.

Paper Source in Saint Matthews is the first store in Kentucky to team up with a new company called Happy Returns.

“We do all the work for them,” Paper Source supervisor Maggie Ising said.

Shoppers take items they want to return to Paper Source, and they don't have to bring a box, bag, receipt or shipping label. Paper Source takes care of all of that, ships the items to Happy Returns, where they are sorted and shipped directly back to the retailer.

Happy Returns partners with popular retailers like Everlane, Untuckit, Thursday Boot Company and Parachute. There is a list of stores here on the Happy Returns Website, and returns only work with those stores.

The Happy Returns app will immediately initiate a refund to the shopper’s credit card or debit card, and the program is free.

Ising says to leave bags, boxes and receipts at home. The only thing needed is an email address.

“It probably takes like two minutes,” Ising said. “So people are like ‘wait, that's it?’

Paper Source doesn't take a cut, it only drives foot traffic into the store, but Smith says it does make a cut in her to-do list.
