Through a new agreement with a growing California-based returns service provider, FedEx Office could see an increase in foot traffic.
On Oct. 20, Happy Returns announced it had reached a deal with FedEx to offer its in-person return service to more than 2,000 of its subsidiary's locations.
With a start in Los Angeles and a nationwide expansion coming by Halloween, online customers of Happy Returns’ retail partners can take back products in-person, without a box or label, at most FedEx Office stores — and get an immediate refund.
“We are very excited to work with Happy Returns as we make the returns experience more convenient for shoppers while also streamlining the process for merchants,” Ryan Kelly, VP of global e-commerce marketing for FedEx, said in a press release. “The packing experts at FedEx Office are ready to help customers, no box or label needed.”
Founded in 2015, Happy Returns gives customers the chance to exchange or return products without packaging or printing in under sixty seconds and receive refunds.
Shoppers can go to retailers’ websites, or the Happy Returns site, and get a QR code. They can then take their item and code to FedEx Office, who ships the item to one of two regional Happy Returns processing hubs.
The partnership with FedEx drastically boosts the company’s footprint, adding several thousand locations to its network that currently includes more than 500.
The deal could also bring a boost to FedEx Office, which was bludgeoned by mandated lockdowns during the COVID-19 pandemic. In June, the business segment’s performance led to FedEx implementing a $348 million impairment charge on Q4 2020.
